Black garden ants commonly nest outside and forage indoors. Trails around doors, windows and food areas help an inspection. Outdoor ants do not automatically need treatment.
Persistent indoor activity may involve a species that needs a different approach. Send a close-up photograph or keep a safely contained specimen. Avoid adding insecticide while identification is uncertain. Read BPCA’s ant identification advice.
A brief seasonal outdoor swarm and repeated emergence inside a room need different assessments. Note where they appear. The inspection considers trails, accessible entry points, possible nest sites and food sources; a concealed nest may not be located on the first visit.
