The sheltered space beneath rooftop panels can provide a roosting or nesting site for pigeons and other birds. Proofing aims to prevent access to that space using a physical barrier selected for the installation.
We check the birds involved, signs of nesting, accessible gaps and the condition of existing proofing. Roof height, panel arrangement and safe access all affect the proposed work. Photographs taken from the ground can help with the initial enquiry; you do not need to climb onto the roof.
Mesh or another appropriate exclusion system is fitted around the panel edges where suitable. Compatible clip systems can secure mesh without drilling the panels, but the fixing method must suit the particular frame and installation. Ventilation, drainage, cables and future maintenance access need to be considered.
Your quote will set out the proposed proofing, access arrangements and any agreed clearance of old nesting material or droppings. Cleaning, repairs and electrical work should not be assumed to be included. Any signs of damaged wiring or panel faults should be referred to a competent solar installer or electrician.

Nesting activity must be checked before work starts. Wild birds, their eggs and nests have legal protection; intentionally damaging or destroying a nest while it is being used or built is normally an offence. Birds or dependent young must not be trapped behind a barrier.
If an active nest is found, the timing and lawful options must be assessed. Work may need to wait. The presence of pigeons does not automatically permit nest removal. See Natural England’s guidance on wild birds and licences.
Warranty conditions differ. The proposed fixings and installation method should be checked against the panel manufacturer’s and installer’s requirements before work proceeds. A non-drilled fixing alone does not establish that every warranty condition is met.
Roof work requires suitable access and fall-prevention measures. The inspection determines the arrangements needed; scaffolding or other access equipment may affect the quote and timing. Avoid attempting roof-level proofing yourself.
A barrier selected for birds should not be treated as universal protection against insects or rodents. Different activity needs identification and its own assessment. Proofing also cannot guarantee electricity output or eliminate every future maintenance need. If a barrier becomes loose or damaged, arrange a check.
