Professional Pest Control Across Wirral, Liverpool & Chester

Bird control & proofing in Wirral, Liverpool & Chester

Help with pigeons and other birds affecting homes, rental properties and businesses across Wirral, Liverpool and Chester.

I’m Neil Withington, your local pest controller. I assess the species, activity and nesting situation before recommending suitable bird proofing and a clear quotation.

Inspection and suitable proofing

Repeated roosting, nesting and fouling can create maintenance and hygiene problems. An inspection helps establish what is happening and which areas need attention, rather than assuming every bird sighting requires control.

Identify the birds and the affected area

I assess the species, roosting or nesting activity, access points and nearby features that may attract birds. The condition of the building, roof access and any existing barriers are considered before proposing work.

Choose proofing that suits the site

Depending on the findings, recommendations may include mesh, suitable anti-perching systems or netting. The choice depends on the species, the part of the building affected and access for future inspection. Proofing must be designed and fitted to avoid trapping birds or affecting other wildlife.

Birds getting beneath panels need a system suited to the panel layout and fixings. See the solar-panel bird-proofing service for more detail.

Set out the work and costs

Your VAT-inclusive quote explains the areas to be protected, proposed materials, access arrangements and any agreed cleaning or waste removal. Roof height, scaffolding requirements and the extent of fouling can affect the price and timing. Listed buildings or sensitive sites may need additional permissions checked before installation.

Discuss your bird problem

Tell me your location, where the birds are gathering and whether you have seen nesting activity. Photographs taken safely from ground level can help with the initial enquiry. Call 07859 805336 or send a message to discuss an inspection and quote.

Nesting birds, cleaning and aftercare

Can an active nest be removed?

Wild birds, their eggs and nests are protected by law. Intentionally damaging or destroying a nest while it is being used or built is normally an offence. Some species have additional protection from disturbance.

An active nest needs assessment before any work proceeds; work may need to wait. A nuisance problem does not automatically permit nest removal, and any licensing or other lawful basis must be checked for the circumstances. Birds and dependent young must not be sealed behind proofing. See Natural England’s bird-protection guidance.

What about droppings and old nesting material?

Cleaning and waste removal are assessed and quoted according to the extent of contamination and access. Disturbing accumulated droppings can create contaminated dust or spray. Avoid dry sweeping or pressure-washing heavy deposits; the work needs suitable controls and protective equipment. HSE provides guidance on working around bird droppings.

Does bird proofing need maintenance?

Yes. Netting, mesh and fixings need checks for damage, gaps and trapped birds. Storms, building repairs or other trades can affect an installation. Report loose barriers or birds caught in proofing promptly so appropriate help can be arranged. Do not climb onto a roof to investigate.

The recommended inspection and maintenance arrangements will be discussed for your site. Keeping food waste secure and removing accessible food sources can also help reduce bird activity. For wider business pest concerns, see the commercial pest-control service.
